Massage Stones
(Gua Sha)

Massage stone massage, also known as "gua sha" in traditional Chinese medicine, is an instrument assisted soft tissue massage technique that involves scraping the skin and kneading the muscles with a smooth-edged massage stone to stimulate blood flow, reduce inflammation, and promote healing. These stones are used by massaging the target location and utilizing pressure to help release the muscles.

Massage stones often leave a redness on the skin which is a result of inflammation dissipating. In Chinese medicine, the redness or bruising caused by the scraping action is known as "sha," which is believed to release stagnant energy and toxins from the body. Massage stones, or gua sha, is often used for lymphatic drainage and to alleviate muscle pain.
